Sewing Goals for 2007
I need to simplify!! So I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do:
Choose a handful of core patterns including ones for Brian and the boys to use over and over again. I want to put away the extraneous patterns in an organized way so that if I need something special or different, they’re easy to access. The girls and I like knit everyday dresses and I prefer an empire waist. Pull em on and look pulled together. Dressed in 30 seconds!
And work on these things:
Lingerie… I want to get to the point that I’m sewing all of our undergarments. The fellas prefer boxers, thank goodness. Slips seem very passe in the rest of the world, but I like how they make me feel fully dressed. I want to sew bras for myself and oldest daughter and little undershirts for my little girls.
Preservation… I need to preserve and grade some patterns so that I can use them over and over again without destroying the originals. It also help when modifying patterns.
Embroidery Machine… It’ll have to be a used one. I want a really heavy duty, versatile machine. I have too much sewing to do to rely on a flimsy home version that I’ll burn out in no time. Any recommendations?
I’m reminded of Versace’s genius. He chose very plain, classic lines, used them over and over again, but with innovative fabrics and embellishments. Like his fashions or not, the concept was (and is) amazingly and cunningly simple. Brilliant!
