Today is the Feast of All Monastic Saints
We will celebrate humbly today with our Benedictine and Cistercian friends with a simple meal of chicken soup and home-baked bread with jam, made by our friends at nearby St. Joseph’s Abbey, a Cistercian (or Trappist) monastery.
After luncheon, we will enjoy a reading from this book, which I highly recommend:
It was written by Father’s friend and teacher Basil Cardinal Hume. It was written for children, but is equally enjoyable and beneficial for Mums and Dads. Each chapter takes you round a different part of the house in a game of hide-and-seek. Cardinal Hume’s humility and humanity are engaging and endearing. So much so, that this book is on my wish list:
And many more by and about this wonderful man.
Please listen to Father’s Homily for this day. What a lot of wisdom he shares about monasticism and monastics.
And say a special prayer for all those in monastic communities, especially those who have died and gone on to their Eternal Rest. May your day be truly blessed!
