Home Remedy: For a UTI
I am, thankfully, not prone to these as many women are. I do, however, get them on rare occasions. I have learned that when I feel one coming on, this home remedy knocks it right out before it takes hold:
1 T. Fresh grated ginger root
1/2 c. Knudsen “Just Cranberry”
1 qt. water (steam distilled is EXCELLENT!)
Honey to taste (about 1/4 c. for me)
Heat water to boiling and pour over grated ginger. Let steep for 15 minutes. Strain, reheat. Add honey, stirring until dissolved. Pour in cranberry juice. Drink warm or at room temperature throughout the day. Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory and cranberry is a natural anti-biotic. Cranberry is more gentle than prescription anti-biotics and should not require the attending pro-biotic treatment to re-balance natural flora.
A soak in an epsom salt bath is also useful.
Be well!

May I just offer a word of caution? If you think you have had a UTI, please visit your doctor for a urinalysis. It is a quick test, and you NEED to know that you have killed all of the bacteria. If you have not, you are at risk for a kidney infection. Kidney infections do not always have symptoms that would alert you that you are sick. As unbelievable as it may sound, UTIs can kill you. They are not something you should mess around with. Use the home remedy if you want, but please follow up with a urinalysis.
Please, do not use a home remedy with a child! They need the antibiotics. Have them eat lots of live culture yogurt to replenish the good bacteria. A child with a fever and back pain should be taken to the doctor immediately or to the ER after hours. Sometimes the infection gets to their kidneys before they have the usual UTI symptoms.
I’m telling you all of this because one of my children died from a UTI. They may seem “minor”, but honestly, the bacteria needs to be killed or it will kill you.
