Tuesday, 15 January 2008

It’s a crisp, cold winter’s morning. We’ve had a thick fall of snow - nearly a foot. This after a week of very warm spring-like weather in the 50s and 60s. Many of our backyard birds have not ventured far from their nests - and the rooster has taken up residence underneath the barn.

According to the weather forecast,w e’re due for some spits and spots of snow through the week here in the Worcester hills. It sounds as though there may be a snow-shoe outing in the offing!

Monday 31 December 2007

Several inches of new snow fell here in the Worcester hills. All is quiet, and flakes continue to fall softly. The forecast calls for warm temperatures later today, which will melt what fell. We’ve had an interesting late autumn and early winter. Very warm weather punctuated by falls of snow.

***ICE STORM***

It absolutely exquisite! The trees are coated in frosted glass and the ground is glistening. It’s treacherous driving, so thanks be to God that school is on holiday this week. None of our neighbours have to go out.

I spotted a male cardinal in a pine tree out back this morning. Alas, I was too slow to snap a photo…

The goats don’t seem to mind the weather, and even the chickens are venturing out of the barn for some fresh air!

***More snow!*** And a layer of ice. I woke this morning to the sound of ice pellets hitting the windowpane. The wind is blowing the snow about, making drifts against the barn and doghouse. Jack has had to shovel around the doors to let the animals out. I suspect that we won’t see much of the chickens today, they’re not fond of the snow, although they don’t seem to mind the cold.

More Snow!

15 December 2007

We’re in for a real Nor’Easter tonight. Thankfully we have all we need in case the plows don’t get through until late tomorrow. We’re just praying that we don’t lose power because, when that happens, we lose water and heat with it. For all that, it’s wonderful living in New England. I remember how I missed snow when we lived in England, so I’m grateful for every sparkly, soft moment of it.

SNOW!

Friday 14 December
SNOW! Just about 12″! The children are on their way out to help Papa shovel the drive. I suspect that there is a lovely sweet reward on offer when they’re finished.
The weather man says that it’s going to warm right up today and start to melt. Just in time for another storm this weekend.

Let it Snow!
